Services

Freeside provides a variety of services to its users, they are briefly described below, along with how to use them.

Shell Access

Shell access via SSH is provided from several linux servers - to access them enter "freeside.dcs.hull.ac.uk" in your SSH client, and type in your Freeside username and password when prompted.

Shell access is mostly unrestricted, and you can play around without fear of having your account suspended.
We recommend putty as a cross-platform SSH client, you can download it here.

Web Hosting

We currently provide free web hosting for FreeSide members. This includes 300MB of web space with support for several different scripting languages including PHP. Our Web Hosting also includes FTP and SFTP access.

Instant Messaging

Instant messaging is provided in two 'flavours'. The first is IRC (Internet Relay Chat) which is open for anybody to access using e.g. mIRC (Windows) or XChat(Linux) or through the Web IRC option on the left. The second is Jabber server with MSN/AIM/ICQ/Gtalk support.

Blog Service (Project FireStorm)

Coming Soon. This is going to be our 'headline' project push into the student sector. It will be open for all students to use after becoming FreeSide members. If you are interested in testing this project before release then please e-mail me at phoenixrises - at - hotmail.co.uk to show your interest.
